Hi! My name is J and I’ve already kind of starting introducing myself on my About Me page, but I’ll condense that a pinch for you here.
I’m 21 and in college in Tennessee. I love music and coffee as my blog title says. I had a blog for my first two years of school, but after some events this year, I decided I needed a fresh start.
I love to read and write, and I hate that in college I don’t have as much time as I want for either of those things. I probably don’t get enough sleep, and I tend to stress a lot about school.
I love blogging and I’m really glad I can share that with all of you, finally no longer worried about anyone I know stumbling on my blog.
I made this blog to be a safe space. Somewhere I could talk about my problems and not be judged.
To kind of redirect this post, I’m going to tell you all a little more about the first part of my blog title.
I’ve been a music lover since I could sing. My grandfather was a band director and my grandmother was a piano teacher (she just recently passed away Nov. 2015).
My dad has been playing Earth, Wind, and Fire, Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, and more around me and my brother and sister for as long as I could remember.
My mom primarily listens to gospel music, and I’ve been singing MaryMary, CeCe Winans, and Yolanda Adams since their early albums. MaryMary’s first album was actually my first CD in 2000. I’ve always grown up in the church and I gave my life to Christ the mother’s day after my eleventh birthday.
I first branched out from my parents music styles in fifth grade or so, and I really diverged in middle school, moving into more pop radio and R&B. Early Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, and Trey Songz are some of my most insistent memories of that time. The radio also introduced me to early Fall Out Boy and Panic! at the Disco, but in 2009, Fall Out Boy went on hiatus.
In high school, I had a chance to see Martina McBride perform and I switched to country music not long after that. I feel in love with music that told a real story. Rascal Flatts, Sugarland and Carrie Underwood were my absolute favorites.
Once college hit, and Fall Out Boy came back from their hiatus, I came back to alternative music full force, not just what I could hear crossing over on the pop radio. My list of bands now probably needs an index by themselves, but that’s more for another post.
